Studying in the United States offers Nigerian students access to world-class education, flexible academic programs, and global career opportunities. The F1 student visa allows you to study full-time in the USA, while the F2 visa enables your spouse and children to accompany you as dependents.
However, many USA study visa applications from Nigeria are refused due to poor interview preparation, weak study intent, or improper financial presentation.
At Eljoi Global Agency, we guide you step-by-step to submit a credible, well-prepared USA study visa application that meets current embassy expectations.
Access to top-ranked universities and colleges
Wide range of courses and flexible program structure
Opportunity to work on campus while studying
Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation
Global recognition of US qualifications
The F1 visa is for international students enrolled in:
Universities
Colleges
High schools
Language programs
Professional and vocational programs
You must be enrolled full-time in a SEVP-approved institution.
The F2 visa is for:
Spouse of an F1 student
Unmarried children under 21
⚠️ Note:
F2 dependants cannot work in the USA but may study part-time (spouse) or full-time (children).
In 2026, Nigerian students applying for an F-1 student visa must provide several categories of supporting documents beyond the basic application forms
Form I-20: The original, signed Certificate of Eligibility issued by your SEVP-approved school.
Valid Passport: Must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in the U.S.
DS-160 Confirmation Page: Printed page with the barcode. Note: Starting April 2025, the barcode on this page must exactly match the one used to book your appointment.
Payment Receipts: Proof of payment for the $350 SEVIS I-901 fee and the $185 visa application fee (MRV fee). (Note: these fees are subject to change)
Passport Photographs: Two colour photos (5cm x 5cm) taken within the last six months.
Financial Documentation
You must prove you can cover tuition and living expenses for at least the first year of study.
Bank Statements: Personal or sponsor's statements, typically covering the last 3 to 6 months.
Sponsorship Proof: If sponsored, include a Sponsorship Letter (Affidavit of Support) and proof of your relationship to the sponsor (e.g., birth certificates).
Scholarship/Loan Letters: Official letters detailing award amounts or approved educational loans.
Income Verification: Sponsor's pay stubs, tax records, or business registration documents.
Academic and Personal Records
Official Transcripts: Original academic records from all previously attended schools.
Standardised Test Scores: Scores for exams cited in your application, such as TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, GMAT, or SAT, if applicable.
Diplomas/Certificates: Original copies of previous degrees or secondary school results (e.g., WAEC/NECO).
Social Media Information: You may be required to provide handles for your public social media accounts that you have used over the last five years.
Proof of Ties to Nigeria
You'll need to show your intent to return to Nigeria after graduation.
Evidence of Family or Property: Documents showing assets, family commitments, or a job offer in Nigeria.
Travel Itinerary: A tentative flight plan or explanation of your travel schedule.
At Eljoi, we help you structure your financial documents properly, not just show money.
